The Museum is fully accredited under the Arts Council England Accreditation Scheme and as such has a number of written policies governing all aspects of collections management. These include collections development, care and conservation, documentation, entry and exit to the museum, labelling and marking, location and movement control and loans.

Rationalisation and disposal forms an active part of Collections Development, and the national Accreditation standard exists to retain public confidence in the management of museum collections. Lists of the objects currently proposed for disposal are available from the Museum on request.
