Mandy Pattullo makes textile collages which bring together old and often disintegrating textiles with hand stitched marks. She generates interesting surface textures through unpicking and deconstructing old quilts, garments, ethnic and antique cloth. These are patched together and embellished with stitch.

Through preserving the discarded and overlooked and refashioning these rescued rags into new patchworks she hopes to force the viewer to re-examine fabrics that have become flawed through wear and tear and find in them a new beauty.

Shelley Rhodes observes and responds to small details in the environment and everyday things she encounters.  She is drawn to distressed, worn surfaces, altered over time and will often ‘weather’ work as part of her practice. She re-uses materials: found, salvaged or discarded, including remnants and offcuts, thus embracing the Japanese ethos of Mottainai.
