A talk - the first of three - with Kirsty Hartsiotis exploring the rich history of stained glass in the Cotswolds.
Gloucestershire is home to one of the great schemes of medieval glass at Fairford, which tell the tale of the bible in colourful glass, along with demons and angels and saints. Discover Fairford’s wonderful glass alongside medieval treasures from Gloucester cathedral, glass hidden away in Oxford college chapels, and in our parish churches. The Reformation made an end to all this colour and storytelling. The talk will look at some of the questions around what remains, often fragmentary and reworked. Why were churches filled with stained glass? What stories did the glass tell? How did it change as the Middle Ages went on? Join Kirsty to find out in part one of this series of talks. After the talk, enjoy coffee and cake and a chance to ask questions and share ideas.
