Miss Potter's Tailors Tale - Theatre Show by Brandywine Theatre

  • The Museum in the Park Stratford Park, Stratford Road Stroud, England, GL5 4AF United Kingdom (map)

After writing and illustrating nineteen universally-adored books, Beatrix Potter is now Mrs William Heelis, a hard-working hill farmer in the Lake District and wonders how she is ever going to find time to make the drawings for 'The Tale of Kitty in Boots' - which is intended to be her twentieth book - but which is already two Christmases overdue. But in 1916, in the midst of a war, with Zeppelin bombers overhead and the army wanting to requisition her horse, life is even more difficult - "And how can you run a farm without a horse I should like to know?" Even so, Beatrix is prepared to take a short break from lambing her beloved Herdwick ewes on a wild and snowy night to chat with us about: How she found instant fame with The Tale of Peter Rabbit - The tragedy of her first great love - Her work with Canon Rawnsley (a founder of the National Trust) to preserve the beauty of the district for future generations - And how she has finally found contentment among the hills and dales with the local solicitor, Appleby Billy. Oh, and the True identity of those fairies who helped The Tailor of Gloucester to make a waistcoat.
