Wed 2 March: Halas & Batchelor Shorts (charming, witty and beautiful animated shorts from the ground-breaking animation studio once based in Stroud, with thanks to Vivien Halas)
Wed 9 March: Rivers of Cloth (archive film looking at the local woollen industry, with thanks to Anthony Burton & Stroudwater Textile Trust)
Wed 16 March: Rivers of Cloth (apologies: due to technical glitches we’re unable to show ‘Cotswold Craftsmen’ today: we hope to show this charming film again at a future date).
Wed 23 March: Halas & Batchelor Shorts … showing again – as too brilliant to miss!
For this year’s Film Festival we’ve been digging through our past event archives. We invite you to drop in and take a seat in Gallery Two if you’d like to see snippets of local history captured on camera. Perhaps you’ll glimpse wool arriving at a local mill, rural crafts in the 1930s, or dazzling hand-drawn animations. A different documentary or film clip will be playing on a loop every week.
And if you’ve yet to discover the Museum collection, do head over to the Mansion House side of the building where fascinating historical displays await you. Be sure to take a good look at the ‘Acmiola’ Sound and Film editing machine – it reveals the fascinating story of Stroud’s animation heritage.
