Concert: Warp & Weft

Stroud based composer, Andrew Heath, presents and exciting and modern classical piece commissioned especially for the Wool and Water Festival.

Part soundscape, part classical music, Waft and Weft draws it’s musical influence from elements as diverse as Philip Glass and The Art of Noise. Using recordings of weaving looms and other weaving mill soundest explores the repetitive, rhythmic qualities of weaving machinery and their syncopated musical structures. Over three distinct sections, it recreates and portrays sonically, a day in the life of a mill worker as they move between very different sound worlds.

Incorporating two amazing local musicians, Lydia Kenny on soprano saxophone and Angie Spencer on violin the pieces stirs from it’s sleeping calm, explores with poly-rhythmic energy and dynamism of life in the mills and then find its peace as it draws to the close of the day.

Warp and Weft is approximately 20 minutes long. There will an introduction by Andrew and following the performance there will be a question and answer session.
