What if at Jane Austen's death, not all of her letters and manuscripts from her stay in Cheltenham had been burnt by her sister? Enter her novel The Cheltonians. As observant as ever of Society's ills and set in the year following Waterloo, Emma Woodhouse, now newly married, finds herself in Cheltenham sampling the waters from its spas. But the arrivals of a Jamaican born widow of a wealthy ship owner and an army officer, soon prove too great a temptation for Emma, and it is not long before she starts matchmaking with disastrous consequences. Jane Austen & The Cheltonians provides an insightful and timeless social commentary on our manners and our morals. Natura Contemporary Theatre have developed a reputation for producing high quality contemporary theatre in town and country locations.
