‘Telling Women’s Stories’ Explorer Trail

Pop along to the Museum to discover stories about the achievements and creativity of women who lived, worked and created in the Stroud District in the past through our new ‘Telling Women’s Stories’ Explorer Trail. Created for International Women’s Day on Friday 8th March 2024, and great for tweens, teens and grown-ups wanting to explore and discover how the women of the past, this trail invites you to be inspired, create, and discover.  

This photograph shows Bill Hayward and Marjorie Grant Heelas competing in the 1946 Cotswold Cup at Rowden, Hazel Woods, Nailsworth riding a Motorcycle & sidecar made by Baughan Motors. As well as working at Baughan Motors, Marjorie took part in the trials and races. Her ability to work as a team with Bill Hayward was instrumental in them winning the motorcycle & sidecar class at this trial in 1946. Marjorie’s story can inspire us to work as a team to achieve, as well as helping us find out about Baughan Motors, a local motorcycle works based in Stroud during the 1920s and 1930s.
