Edwin Beard Budding invented the mechanical lawnmower in Stroud in 1830. This scale model of his original design probably dates from the 1830s and was made to exhibit at trade shows. It may be older than any surviving Budding lawnmower.

The model’s existence has only recently come to light and is on public display for the first time.
