Bobby Britnell has been working with textiles for over 55 years. Her artistic practice is deeply rooted in drawing, painting, and the exploration of diverse materials. She has drawn inspiration from the beautiful Shropshire countryside, reflecting its textures and marks in her work. Her process often begins with bold charcoal drawings, which informs subsequent layers of paint, dye and stitch.

A key material in recent and current work is bark cloth from Southern Uganda, valued for its unique raw texture, versatility and its cultural importance. More recently she has combined the bark cloth with other materials providing new explorations into print and surface design.

Bobby has taught across schools, guilds, and community groups, including the BA Stitched Textiles Degree program at the Julia Caprara School. She currently shares her passion for art and textiles through online courses and face-to-face workshops, attracting the best of tutors to teach and students from around the world.
