Composer Bryan Hammerquist created three Sonic Short Stories inspired by and in memory of Alan Evans, whose work and legacy is celebrated in the Earth Fire Iron exhibition. You can enjoy these beautiful pieces via our YouTube channel from now until 3 November - click here to listen.

The pieces came about while exploring the unique temperaments of Alan's blacksmithing works. Bryan experimented with several of Alan's smaller works, and recorded sounds of them being struck, rubbed together, and otherwise turned into percussive instruments. In the music, some of the recorded sounds retain the raw, unaltered character of the blacksmith works, while others have been stretched, reversed and processed into more subtle elements in the mix.
