‘Stitch in Time’ explores key moments in the fascinating history of British and American patchwork from the expensive use of imported Chintz in the late 1700s to the Victorian passion for Crazy Patchwork on both sides of the Atlantic. The exhibition follows the story through ‘make do and mend’ necessity in the Great Depression and the Second World War and on to the great craft revival of the 1970s. The patchwork in this exhibition is from the outstanding historical collection restored and researched by Jane and Peterson Cobbett. Not to be missed!
