Black Ounce by Pete Hoida

The Black Morar Series

New Paintings by Pete Hoida 2010 – 2012

Exhibited from 5 June – 7 July, 2013

The Black Morar Series 2010-2012 at the Museum in the Park runs in tandem with paintings from the 70's, 80's, 90's, & 00's on show at St Mary of the Angels in Brown's Hill.

Some of us know Pete Hoida has been painting in Brown's Hill since 1974. Exhibited at the Museum and Art Gallery in Cheltenham (1995), and in London, Exeter, Southport, Bristol, Harlech, Southport and Halifax. And yet his paintings have rarely been seen in Stroud.

Abstract in acrylic on canvas, they are bravura and subtle. They do not give themselves up immediately. They are slow-burn. They demand the gaze. They do not refer to; they ask only to be recognised. They do not require arcane knowledge. They scrupulously avoid the clichés of abstraction.
