Fizz by Richard Bawden

Edward Bawden and Richard Bawden

Exhibited from 1 March - 27 March, 2011

A rare opportunity to see, side by side, the extraordinary work of father and son, Edward and Richard Bawden.

Edward Bawden CBE RA (1903 – 89) was a British painter, illustrator and graphic artist. He became an enormous influence in British design and was famous for his prints, book covers, posters and garden metalwork furniture. The prints included here mainly come from his commission from London Transport - bold, simple and subtle with a strong decorative pattern, optimizing the character of each place.

Richard Bawden RWS NEAC RE is a painter, printmaker and designer mainly working in lino, etching and watercolour. His work has a graphic, linear quality and strong sense of craftsmanship, translated into many forms. Included here are linocuts, etchings and mixed media works - an exhibition of intaglio and relief prints. Richard's prints are developed from working drawings; his ideas predominantly develop from everyday surroundings. He may work with intense black, but often creates colour images using several blocks or plates with overprinting, and also combines the two techniques.
